In this part of the project, framing analysis, and the analysis of media framing in particular, is used as a way to explore the articulation of (and the social attention given to) grassroots initiatives, and to study the way alternative ideas/practices are articulated and mobilized by GIs. Societal engagement of GIs, and the visibility of innovative approaches, are analyzed through studying their coverage in the media and their strategies and framing of goals and activities. Data collection takes place through newspaper databases to collect media items reflecting on sustainable energy projects initiatives. This is complemented by a qualitative content analysis of online strategy documents and a systematic and quantitative analysis of newspaper archives. Contents will be coded and interpreted with the help of Atlas-TI and analysed with the help of SPSS.
